THE ULTIMATE FAMILY ITINERARY TO MOROCCO
Few countries are as thrillingly exotic as MOROCCO. Names like Marrakesh and Aït Benhaddou conjure up images of stalls piled high with pungent mounds of cinnamon and saffron, and of earth-baked kasbahs surrounded by vast oases that run to the horizon. Ask your children about the Sahara and watch their eyes light up with tales of camel trains and rolling dunes and tribal nomads dressed in blue.
From our various updating trips for Rough Guides, we’ve distilled the best of Morocco into eleven days – shopping in souks, hiking through Berber villages and sleeping out in the Sahara. It’s a tough call not to include Fez, our favourite city in North Africa, but it's a long drive to and from Marrakesh and the south (eight hours or so), with not a great deal to break your journey along the way. And besides, Fez’s fascinating medieval Medina is worth exploring on an exotic city break of its own.
